Happy Halloween

There is a fly crawling across the top of my monitor, its driving me mad. Every time I try and get it it buggers off. Other than that, in case you didnt know its All hallows eve today, Samhain, the time of year when the veil between the living and those who have passed on is at its thinnest. A time when it is possible to communicate with our ancestors and others who have since died. Its also the time when every kid in the area dresses like a witch or a vampire and knocks on your door for sweets. Photo0034I have to admit I did take my three boys out trick or treating tonight, just round the neighbours, my eldest had his face painted like a lizard, Con like a vampire and Tree frog like a skeleton, little Boo was dressed like a witch.

When we got back home I asked my eldest if he knew what halloween was about. "Yes course I do" was his answer, "its all about sweets"he told me in a matter of fact way. When I asked how he thought that I was told "because it was on Scooby doo". I said nothing.. The pumpkin to the left is one of two that we had this Halloween, we managed to get two of them early enough to carve them. Usually we leave it so late we end up with a pumpkin the size of a turnip. I cant take the credit for carving it though, that honour goes to John my brother in law.

A little while back Wordpress released Wordpress MU or Multi user along with something called Buddypress.

As tell us:"Ever dream of running hundreds of thousands of blogs with a single install of WordPress? WordPress MU, or multi-user, is designed to do exactly that. It is most famously used for where it serves tens of millions of hits on millions of blogs each day". say that Buddypress is: "BuddyPress will extend WordPress MU and bring social networking features to a new or existing installation. BuddyPress is a suite of WordPress plugins and themes, each adding a distinct new feature. BuddyPress contains all the features you’d expect from WordPress but aims to let members socially interact".

Well when I read this of course I wanted them and set out to get them. And I got them about 10-15 minutes later. Only problem was I did not have a clue how to install them. I have read the Install read me document so many times I almost know it by heart. Yet still I could not install it, I would follow the read me instructions, as well as install instructions on many websites and still I would get errors. I asked the service desk at work if they know, I asked the IT guy who even emailed the guy who trained him and everyone said the same things.. "SQL data bases and Apache servers? Noooo Sorry". Last night I gave it one last try, desperation slowly setting in, my eyes were stinging and fighting to close as the sleep faery quietly whispered in my ear. Time passed in a blink of a red sore eye and before I knew it it was 1 o`clock in the morning. This time something was diferent though. This time instead of the usual error messages and blank pages I had a final install form to fill in, the form which creates the config.php file. Slowly I filled in the form, not daring to even think it "might" work.I click setup and am given a password.. No, I thought, it cant be.. Its working! And it was working. Whats more boys, girls and those of you of mixed or no gender, it not only worked once but twice. Now as well as Nosceres I have a multi user extension to this site as well as another multi user site were if I see fit I can run as many blogs as I want, all under the same install. Just like I could on but this time on my site. My next problem is finding something to use said sites for now. I have an idea for one of them but Im not too sure about the other.

Its nearly 1 in the morning again so Im off to bed.
